What do we do?

-InternshipsStudents in HTM work with our local partners (Doubletree by Hilton; Courtyard by
Marriott; Atlas Travel) to gain hands-on experience in hotel operations, event planning, and
project management. Part of the curriculum of the program is an internship during class time
during both junior and senior years.

-Event Planning: Our students plan and execute various events for the schools and the
community. Examples of past (or reoccurring) events include: MHS Exchange Program
Receptions; Stacy Middle School Color Run; Atlas Travel Fair; Woodland Elementary Farewell;
MHS Prom Fair. Students plan events from start to finish, allowing them to gain experience in
teamwork, leadership, communication, time-management, and project management.

-Field TripsHTM students travel to various hospitality locations throughout New England to
experience the industry. Past field trips include: Logan International Airport; Harvard Club of
Boston; Hyannis Yacht Club; Johnson & Wales University; Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino.

-Guest Visits: Students welcome several guest speakers each year. These guests come to the
classroom to work with students on projects and to discuss experiences and opportunities in the
industry. Guests include: Professors from area universities; Club Manager from the Harvard
Club of Boston; Sales Representative from Walt Disney; former HTM students; and many more.

-Certifications: HTM students have the opportunity to earn 5 industry-recognized certifications
throughout the program. These include: American Hotel & Lodging Association’s Guest Service
Professional Certification; National Restaurant Association’s Food Handler, Allergen Awareness,
and Alcohol Server Certifications; These certifications help our students stand out amongst peers when applying for jobs and colleges.
